Moss Rose Bakery sits quietly on a convenient corner in downtown Oakdale, offering a slice of local comfort through its modest yet well-loved bakery and breakfast-lunch spot. This is the kind of place where mornings tend to draw in a steady flow of locals, from early risers grabbing fresh coffee alongside a cinnamon roll to folks settling in for a simple, scratch-made lunch.

The atmosphere leans toward homey and unpretentious, with a mix of small indoor and some outdoor seating that feels just right for a casual catch-up or a low-key solo break. It’s clear from conversations behind the counter and the warm greetings that this bakery has been part of the Oakdale rhythm for quite some time—staff and owners seem deeply connected to the neighborhood, which adds to the welcoming vibe.

While the menu covers a range from classic breakfast burritos to fresh-baked breads and pies, the cinnamon rolls are often singled out by locals, delivering a rich, gooey sweetness ideal for pairing with one of their iced coffees or a nostalgic root beer float. If you swing by midday, the kitchen sometimes runs low on certain items, an indication of steady business but also a reminder it’s worth going early or with a flexible appetite.

This bakery draws in a diverse crowd: longtime Oakdale residents appreciating traditions baked from scratch, families stopping in for weekend treats, and the occasional traveler looking to sample authentic local flavors. If you’re after a perfectly balanced, just-past-warm cinnamon roll or a simple sandwich made with fresh bread, Moss Rose fits the bill.

Popular bakery and convenient location in downtown Oakdale. Ordered pastrami sandwich (they were out of a few meat options), a chef salad (again out of some options), and a cinnamon roll. Sandwich was fresh and tasty. Salad was mostly lettuce (wouldn’t recommend). Cinnamon roll was very good but had some undercook dough in the center (I didn’t mind!). I was bummed they didn’t give me the cookie that was supposed to come with my salad (didn’t notice until we drove off). I went on a Sat and there was a small farmer’s market which blocked the street but it’s easy to find parking a block away.

A hometown favorite open for multiple generations. Hard working people making wonderful things from scratch. Bread, pies, cookies and rolls are all wonderful but cinnamon rolls are our personal fave and sugar cookies are widely known. Cash only. Be kind and patient if they are busy, it’s a small business.

We had a fantastic experience with Moss Rose Bakery during our stop in Oakland. The atmosphere and service was super friendly, warm and welcoming. We could even chat with the owner who was so warm-hearted :)) We have had several bagels and cookies which tasted superb. The most outstanding however was the cinnamon roll. If you are in Oakland, make sure to pass by!!

This is such a cute bakery! I love the how home-y it feels when you walk in. I came here on a Saturday afternoon & they weren't very busy with two other customers sitting outside. They have indoor & outdoor seating but I opted for sitting inside. Ordered 2 cookies - snickerdoodle & angel. The girl behind the counter sold me on the angel cookie, I asked what it was & she said that it was one of their best sellers and it literally melts in your mouth. Both cookies were yums, hit my sweet tooth craving. Yes, they only take case which luckily I had the right amount on hand. All in all, a cute bakery & I'll be back!
